Faster, more comprehensive and more affordable offshore environmental studies

Desktop studies, environmental characterization, scoping studies, impact assessments and statements, and design criteria, built from publicly available data: models, hindcasts, reanalyses and observations.

All the data used in each study is also provided as a supplement. A scientist with a PhD reviews and signs every study.

Tell us where your site is

Give us the coordinates of your point or area of interest, or upload your KML or shapefile, and select your project and study type.

  • We check which public datasets cover your area.
  • We list what a study there would include, and what it could not.
  • We send you a technical and commercial proposal.

01Studies offered

Choose one of the studies we offer

Desktop study

A structured review of existing, publicly available information about a site or project area, drawing on published literature, open databases, maps, historical records and previous surveys. It brings what is already known into a single reference, identifies data gaps and potential constraints, and gives an informed starting point before any new investigation is commissioned.

Environmental characterization study

Compiles and interprets existing public data to describe the physical, chemical and biological conditions of a project area, including oceanography, seabed features, water quality, habitats and species presence. It sets a preliminary baseline of environmental conditions, shows where knowledge is strong or limited, and guides where future field measurements would add the most value.

Environmental impact assessment

A systematic evaluation of the likely environmental and social consequences of a proposed activity, carried out at a preliminary level using publicly available information about the site and comparable projects. It identifies the main potential effects, considers alternatives, and outlines measures to avoid or reduce adverse impacts, giving developers and stakeholders an early understanding of the issues a project will face.

Environmental impact statement

A structured document that presents the findings of a preliminary impact assessment: the proposed activity, the affected environment as understood from existing data, the predicted impacts, and recommended mitigation and monitoring measures. It provides a clear, organised foundation that can be refined and expanded as project-specific data become available.

Environmental scoping study

Uses existing information to define the boundaries of a future environmental assessment, identifying the key issues, sensitive receptors and potential impacts that warrant detailed study. It focuses attention and resources on the questions of greatest environmental and stakeholder concern, and sets out a roadmap for the data collection and analysis still needed.

Design criteria

The environmental and site parameters an engineered system must be designed to withstand or accommodate, such as wind, waves, currents, water depth, seabed conditions and temperature extremes. Derived at this stage from publicly available measurements, models and reanalysis datasets, they give preliminary quantitative inputs for early-stage engineering and planning, to be validated with site-specific data as the project matures.

02Method and provenance

You can check every number in a study

Named source files

Each number records its dataset, version, access date and the SHA-256 fingerprint of the exact file.

Files checked on arrival

Every file is opened after download. Its fingerprint, variables, values and area are checked; its time range and depth levels are recorded.

Reviewed and signed

We analyse the data and write each study. A scientist with a PhD revises and signs every study.

03What's in a study

Each study can cover several disciplines at your site

Every subject comes with site-specific analysis: graphs, figures, images and tables, with interpretation and discussion.

Illustration: stacked layers for atmosphere, waves, species records, a data grid, the seabed and depth contours
Subjects included depend on the study type.
  • Regulations and standards that apply at the site
  • Approach, data sources, methods and confidence
  • Bathymetry, geology, geomorphology and sediments
  • Water masses, temperature, salinity and oxygen
  • Currents from the surface to the seabed
  • Wind climate and tropical cyclones
  • Wave climate
  • Extremes of wind, waves and currents
  • Operational and engineering metocean, including weather windows
  • Climate variability and change
  • Chemistry and biogeochemistry
  • Habitats on the seabed and in the water column
  • Plankton, fish, marine mammals, turtles and seabirds
  • Life on and in the seabed
  • Ecosystem function and services
  • Underwater sound
  • Geohazards: earthquakes, slope stability and tsunami
  • Human uses: shipping, fisheries, cables and other users
  • Environmental sensitivity and constraints mapping
  • Activities, pressures, receptors and impact pathways
  • Cumulative, transboundary and climate effects
  • Risk characterization
  • Uncertainty, data gaps and what further surveys would add

06How a study is made

From your coordinates to a signed study

  1. Send your site.Your point or area of interest, the project type and the study you need.
  2. Technical proposal. We send you a technical proposal, including a list of the data available for your site.
  3. Data downloaded and checked.Once the proposal is accepted and the contract signed, we download and quality-check all the data we will use, along with the related references, scientific papers and book chapters.
  4. Analysis and writing. We analyse all the data, create the results (graphs, figures, tables and images), and interpret and write up the findings.
  5. Revised and signed. The project manager, a scientist with a PhD, revises the study, makes corrections and signs it.
